School Fume Cupboard Maintenance

From one-time visits to packages that lock in prices for 3 to 5 years, Clean Air’s cost-effective service and maintenance ranges will keep you protected.

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations require that all measures provided for the control of exposure to substances hazardous to health are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.

The regulations require the thorough examination and testing of local exhaust systems at least every 14 months. A fume cupboard is a local exhaust system.

Clean Air’s own fully qualified, DBS checked test engineers service your school fume cupboard to CLEAPSS G9 guidelines. Our maintenance visit ensures that each unit, fume extract system and fan is completely fit for purpose and complies with COSHH regulations.

Clean Air offers a free test scheduling service. As a result, you can be sure your fume cupboards will never over-run their testing date.

Our engineers service all makes and models of fume cupboard, not only those we manufacture. We issue a certificate for each fume cupboard detailing the results obtained. And because we carry replacement basic spares in the service vehicles, the repair of minor faults and any adjustments required can be undertaken on the spot.

Free 5-Year Extended Warranty

In addition to the assurance of protection when Clean Air services your fume cupboards, your new school fume cupboard can also be eligible for our free extended 5-year warranty. Just choose our 5-year school fume cupboard servicing package, lock in prices and get your extended warranty. Filter Saturation Test and Filter Seating Test

CLEAPSS recommends that for most schools, testing for filter saturation can be avoided if filters in fume cupboards with heavy use, used in teaching laboratories, are changed every three years and filters in fume cupboards used in prep rooms are changed every two years.

Contact us for prices or if you just need to discuss your filters.

Fume Cupboard Maintenance

If your fume cupboard or extract system isn’t operating correctly, Clean Air offers a quick, responsive repair service throughout the UK. To reduce downtime, we carry replacement filters and levels of spares in our service vehicles. This means we can undertake the repair of minor faults and make any adjustments required on the spot. As a result, we can reduce return visits, saving you money wherever possible.

Filter Maintenance

Our recirculating fume cupboards are designed to provide operator and environmental protection from contaminating fumes and particles through the use of filtration systems. Our filtration system is made of the following components.

Particulate Pre-Filters

Provided before the main filter to remove larger particulates such as airborne dust from the airstream to protect and extend the lifespan of the main filter. Manufactured from pleated media or fibreglass to suit the application required.

Pre-filters should be changed on a regular basis depending on the level of use which ordinarily would be between 3 months and 6 months – actual timescales would be realised based on regular monitoring over time.

Main Carbon Filter

Provided for odour and gas removal. The type of carbon used depends on the contaminants to be removed. Dedicated carbons can be provided for specific chemicals and processes or blended carbons can be provided for a range of contaminants known to be used.

Carbon filters may have a lifespan up to 5 years, but the actual lifespan will depend on the type and volume of contaminants it is required to remove.

Regular monitoring will provide a more accurate timescale of lifespan from which a regime of replacement can be adopted to suit. Through experience we see our clients adopting a regime of replacement anywhere between 12 months and 36 months.
