Our latest advancement, the FlowChex system, was developed by our pioneering engineers. FlowChex comprehensively assesses a fume cupboard’s efficiency in purging fumes and its resilience to external disturbances, such as passing foot traffic. It is a key piece of equipment that will lead us to net zero testing.
FlowChex is a custom array comprising nine hot wire anemometers capable of swiftly measuring and logging data at 10Hz.
This translates to over 5,000 data samples per minute, enabling us to analyse fluctuations in face velocity caused by turbulence meticulously. As air enters the fume cupboard, it accelerates, increasing the Reynolds Number and subsequent fluctuations in average velocity, all of which our new equipment can detect with precision.
FlowChex presents a less intrusive and more sustainable alternative to traditional SF6 testing, aligning with CLEAPSS G9 standards for the measurement of face velocity. Unlike sequential testing methods of the past, where each of the nine locations for face velocity assessment had to be tested individually, FlowChex enables simultaneous measurement, providing a more realistic portrayal of fume cupboard performance.
