Optimised corrosion-proof design for chemical resistance and operator safety
The PPX fume cupboard is constructed almost entirely from copolymer polypropylene. It is a robust, high-performance solution that meets stringent safety and durability standards. The PPX design directly responds to client feedback, addressing concerns about plastic fume cupboard stability by providing a model that does not rock or sway. This is achieved through smart design without needing a metal frame.
The minimal metal components are securely isolated and limited to parts of the electrical sockets, control panel, lighting, and associated wiring and services. For maximum strength and longevity, the PPX fume cupboard is manufactured using folding, plastic welding, and bolting techniques, ensuring a stable, long-lasting structure.
Optimised through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the PPX design delivers superior containment for enhanced operator safety. Comparative testing in line with BS EN14175-3 demonstrates that the PPX achieves excellent containment properties, matching those of standard metal construction fume cupboards. It meets the highest classification for “Good achievable containment results – Higher hazards, e.g. Research/Commercial”, as often required in research and commercial environments.
Polypropylene’s inherent chemical resistance makes the PPX fume cupboard ideal for applications involving large quantities of organic solvents and most acids and bases, excluding oxidising solid acids such as nitric acid. This makes the PPX highly reliable and chemically resistant for demanding laboratory environments.
The PPX has a mobile polypropylene acid storage cupboard that fits below the chamber.
Not every fume cupboard has as many features as standard as a Clean Air fume cupboard! Always check you’re comparing like with like.
Variable Air Volume (VAV) technology for energy efficiency or Constant Air Volume (CAV) versions are available.
We offer full service and maintenance packages with the option to lock in prices to ensure your PPX fume cupboard operates efficiently and safely. Our highly trained test engineers will take care of all servicing aspects.
Keep your lab safe, and never over-run your test date again with our free test scheduling service. Our service and maintenance options cover most makes and models of fume cupboards.
We have a range of fume cabinets designed to meet the needs of varied industries. If the exact product is unavailable for your application, we can design a tailored solution to match your needs precisely.
Polypropylene is an excellent material for fume cupboards used with acids due to several key characteristics that make it highly suitable.
Its versatility allows polypropylene fume cupboards to be used not only in research and university laboratories but also in food processing plants and cleanrooms, where hygiene and chemical resistance are essential.
Overall, polypropylene’s resistance to acids, moisture, and various organic solvents (except strong oxidants), combined with its durability and ease of cleaning, makes it an ideal material for fume cupboards used in environments where acids and other chemicals are regularly handled.
Polypropylene has outstanding chemical resistance, particularly against non-oxidising acids and many other substances. This ensures it doesn’t degrade or react when exposed to various chemicals, making it ideal for handling acids in laboratories.
Polypropylene is highly resistant to corrosion, meaning it won’t rust or break down when exposed to moisture or harsh chemicals. This is a crucial feature for a fume cupboard for acids and other corrosive substances.
Being nonporous, polypropylene prevents harmful chemical buildup and reduces the risk of contamination. This also makes it resistant to odours, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment inside the fume cupboard.
Polypropylene is a tough, mechanically rugged material that can withstand heavy and continuous use without cracking or wearing down. Its durability extends the lifespan of the fume cupboard, even in demanding environments.
Polypropylene is impervious to water and resistant to moisture absorption, which adds to its longevity and ability to prevent leaks or chemical spills.
Polypropylene offers good thermal insulation properties, which helps maintain safe temperatures within the fume cupboard when dealing with substances that may cause temperature changes.
However, it should not be used where temperatures are expected to exceed the maximum recommended operating temperature for polypropylene, which is 82.2°C (180°F). Beyond this temperature, the material’s performance values may be compromised. At 163.8°C (327°F), polypropylene will melt.
The smooth, nonporous surface of polypropylene makes it easy to clean, reducing the need for extensive maintenance. Its resistance to stains further supports the cleanliness of the working environment.
